Q: What is my password?
We don't require you to set a password because users are allowed to log in via a SMS verification code.
However, you can set up a password at the Password page in Settings.
Q: If I post to Nearby chats (public chats) can people see my phone number?
No, your First Name and Last Name (set at the Profile page in Settings) will be shown to people.
If you have not set your First Name or Last Name, your Public ID will be shown.
The Public ID is an auto generated id created by BlueChat during your account creation to help other people identify message posters without revealing their real phone numbers.
On the other hand, if someone already have you as their contact with phone number, then your actual information will be shown to them instead of the Public ID.
Q: How long are messages kept?
30 days. Messages older than 30 days are removed from our servers and from your chat history.
Q: Why are messages kept for only 30 days?
We believe messaging should be like real life conversations and semi-ephemeral.

Messages are kept on the servers so users can access them from any device.
Q: Are messages encrypted on the servers?
Yes, messages are encrypted during send/receive and encrypted on the servers.
Q: What is the max amount of messages chats can hold?
500. Each chat will/can show the last 500 messages sent.
Q: How come I don't see all my recent chats?
Only the most recent 25 chats are shown at the chats screen.
Q: If I delete my message, is it truly deleted?
Q: Can I log into BlueChat with multiple devices with the same phone number?
Yes
Q: How do I manage the sessions with multiple devices? What if I forget to log out from a friend's phone?
In the Settings Panel, go to the Sessions Panel. There, you can see what are the current sessions and what devices you logged into and there you can remove/close those sessions.
YES. If you issue a delete, that message will be deleted from our servers, from all your devices, and from everyone else's devices. The action is irreversible.
Q: What does BlueChat use to translate messages?
We use Google Translate API to do message translations.
Q: I am running into issues/bugs with the app, what can I do to fix it?
1. Check if you have the latest version of the app. Often times, we know about the issues/bugs already and you just need to get the latest version. We update very frequently.
2. Close the BlueChat app and close it in the background, then re-open it. This *can* fix a lot of issues when the app gets confused.
3. Uninstall the app and then re-install the app. This also *can* fix a lot of issues when the app gets confused.
