One of the gruffest people to ever appear on screen, Charlton Heston was one of the definitive sex symbols of the 1950s and 1960s. A herculean actor, he made his name playing some of the most manly, and tough, characters to ever appear on screen, including Moses (The Ten Commandments), Judah (Ben-Hur), and Taylor (Planet of the Apes). With a deep, booming voice and an impeccable physique, Heston established himself as a man that you would NOT want to mess with. His tenure as the president of the National Rifle Association may have made him out to be a die-hard gun-nut conservative. But this gentle giant was actually an outspoken supporter of the Civil Rights Movement.
“I've played three presidents, three saints and two geniuses - and that's probably enough for any man.”
